Cargo Terminal 2 Analysis and Design Simulation at Hamad International Airport, Qatar (DOH)

MATAR engaged BNP and Middle East architecture and engineering firm Dar Al-Handasah to deliver data analysis and simulation for a new multi-level air cargo terminal (Terminal 2).

Analysis and Simulation Development

The analysis included the development of the 3D simulation and cargo flow model for Hamad International Airport, which began with an extensive analysis of existing cargo records. This analysis generated detailed forecasts for each product category. These forecasts were then used to predict cargo demand for peak days and peak hours, providing a solid foundation for the facility’s design and subsequent simulation evaluation.

Facility Design

Once the design was finalized, a simulation model was developed for the 8-level air cargo processing and sorting center. The center features an automated material handling system capable of processing 4.5 million tons of cargo annually.

Functional Areas

Functional areas modeled include landside delivery acceptance, security screening, consignment binning, ASRS bin storage, automated ULD storage, ULD build and break workstations, cool storage, and ULD airside interfaces.
